Spring Break, Baby!

I am having so much fun on my first day of Spring Break. Poor Mommy is sick--again--probably from taking care of me during all my sick days. But I feel great, and I was sure happy to be home playing in my room!

Keep It Down, Please

These last few weeks, I have developed a fear of loud noises. I have never been a fan of motorcycles, and once practically climbed to the top of Mommy's head when one drove by our house. But I have added other loud items to my list now too. Actually, they don't have to be loud. Here is the list in order of scariness:

5. Can opener

4. Hand mixer

3. Hair dryer

2. Vacuum cleaner

1. Lawn mower

(Some where in there falls the completely silent flat iron that Mommy uses on her hair. It is next to the hair dryer on the counter though, so it seems like it would make noise. I consider it loud by association.)

My reaction depends on it's spot on the list. For the can opener, I just drop what I'm doing and nervously stare at it until it's done. For the hair dryer, I crawl as fast as I can out of the room, yelling "Ahhh! Ahhh! Ahhh!" And for the lawn mower, well, that wasn't pretty. Mommy and Daddy thought if they put me on Daddy's lap and I went for a ride, maybe I wouldn't be as scared of the noise. Daddy had bruises and bite marks as evidence that their theory was disproved! Of course, Mommy insisted on following us and taking pictures anyway!

It didn't take long before Daddy turned off the scary grass monster. We kissed and made up and then I was more than happy to pretend to drive it myself! When it was quiet, of course.

Happy Easter!

Mommy, Daddy, and Papa took me to see the Easter Bunny last Wednesday. I got all dressed up and sat quietly while Mommy did my hair. When we got to the mall, there were a lot of people in line with their dogs. We asked the photographer what was going on, and he told Daddy it was pet night only. No kids. Mommy said, "Are you kidding me?" And the man looked very unsympathetic (he must not have kids) and said, "We did it last Wednesday too!" Okay, sure, and how was Mommy supposed to know that? Like Papa always says, I guess her crystal ball wasn't working that day! Have you ever heard of such a thing? I mean, the Easter Bunny is there for the kids, right?

So we had to come back AGAIN the next day. I stared a lot while I was in line for the pictures, so of course by the time it was my turn, I was no longer interested in the Easter Bunny! Good thing Mommy takes her own pictures, so it didn't cost us any money!

We dyed Easter eggs on Saturday, and I did not enjoy that. I was afraid Mommy was going to make me drink the funny-colored water. So I would not let the cup anywhere near me, and she had to make the special "PAPA" egg without me. On Sunday, the Easter bunny hid my basket behind the curtains. Those are my favorite curtains to play behind, so I found it right away. But right when I found it, my papa got to my house. And I was really more interested in playing with him right then!

Then came Rianne and her parents, Grandma, and Aunt Jessie. Aunt Jessie brought me a huge dragonfly balloon! But there were too many people for me, so I kept escaping to a quiet spot. I was happy to see my cousin Rianne though, and Mommy and Aunt Tracie thought it was funny that we both wound up with polka dot Easter dresses. We didn't even plan it!

Now today I am home from school with a little fever. But I am resting (and playing) and should be better soon!

Chuluota Family Fun Day

Mommy has been running out of time each day to write about our busy week, so she is going to play catch up these next few days!

Last weekend, the cub scouts sponsored Chuluota Family Fun Day at the VFW right down the street. So me, Thomas, Rianne, Mommy, Daddy, Mary, and Papa all walked down there to have some fun.

Rianne and Thomas had a great time going down the huge inflatable slide and jumping around in the bounce house. Because Mommy is little, she was able to ride with me down the slide and jump around with me in the bounce house. I wasn't impressed, so Mommy is glad she didn't spend the money on one for my birthday!

There was even cotton candy, and because it wasn't a rainy day, it was much fluffier than the cotton candy at my circus party! It was bigger than our heads, and Mommy said it was oh so yummy.

You might notice that I am not in these pictures. I wasn't in the best mood. The grown-ups kept talking about what a beautiful day it was. I sure didn't think so! The sun was bright and hot, and then every time a breeze came through I had a hard time breathing. To say I was very upset is a bit of an understatement! Daddy had to skip Family Fun Day and take me back home, so Mommy could stay with Rianne. Oh well. At least it was just three streets away, so we got home quickly! Daddy told Mommy that I was happy as a clam as soon as we walked in the front door. And I was! I got to play in my air-conditioned room!

Later, once the sun started going away, we went outside to my swingset and played together. That was a lot of fun, and much better for my sensitive little eyes. It was a busy day, but lots of fun!

What Color Are My Eyes?

Usually blue. But today they're not. I have pink eye in both eyes! So I guess I technically have pink eye(s). Daddy keeps calling me Pinky. :) They actually look more puffy than pink. A little bloodshot maybe. The left loooks worse than the right, but yesterday it was the opposite. And they are not nearly as goopy as they were last night. So maybe I was already starting to get better.

The doctor said it's not a severe case and it looks like we caught it early. My eyes already look better tonight than they did this morning. Just yesterday it looked like only allergies, but it looked a little worse today. I still wasn't rubbing them, so the pediatrician AND the eye doctor did not think it was anything other than allergies. But Mommy decided to take me in to the doctor because it's Friday, and she says I always choose the weekend to get sick. I actually don't choose, it's part of the unwritten kid code that we can only get sick in the middle of the night or on the weekends.

So now I'm on eye drops three times a day for five to seven days. I did good the first time Mommy put them in my eyes today. Then I heard her bragging to Daddy about how easy it was and how good I did. So when Daddy came home and it was time for another round, I made it much more difficult for her. That'll teach her! :)

Personality Portrait

My school pictures are back! Mommy thinks there's some law to school pictures like there is for your driver's license. No one's can look great! Except for Papa's driver's license, because his picture is from like 1989. : ) Last year, the background was splatter painted, so my striped shirt kind of clashed. So this year, Mommy dressed me in a solid turquoise dress, and what did they do? Changed the background to a solid green. So much for planning ahead! Oh well.

Also, I am the only student in my class who is holding a toy in the picture. Apparently, I got mad every time they tried to use the toy to make me smile. Why would I smile when they just keep putting it in my face then taking it away?! I wasn't happy until I actually got to have it! But Mommy says it's just typical me, and it shows my personality in the picture.

Some of you may not have seen last year's school picture, so that one is here is well. And even if you have seen it, it's neat (and sad) to see how much I've grown in one year. Especially my hair!

And here is the picture of my whole class, plus Miss Lauren and Miss Maria. Miss Maria, who is my absolute favorite and has been from the beginning, looks a little like Mommy, we think. Maybe that's why I like her so much!

If You Can't Say Something Nice...

Well, it took Mommy four years to reach her breaking point, but she finally said something to a man staring while she tube fed me in Target. Lots of people have stared over the years, and some have said some really stupid things, but this man was particularly rude.

I was sitting in the front of the cart, just blowing bubbles and minding my own business. Mommy was giving me my milk, and we were back up against a wall to be noticed as least as possible. That's usually the goal anyway. But today, directly across from us at the register, a man was staring at us. Mommy was already irritated because several people had looked over and stared as they walked by. But at least they just kept going. This man didn't even notice that Mommy was looking right at him. Most times when she does that, the people quickly look away. Not this guy. He actually wandered over to near where we were standing, stood there watching for a minute, then wandered back to his family. He did that just to sneak a peek, and again, never noticed Mommy's eyes burning a hole through his head.

When he got back to his family, he whispered to his son (probably 12 or so) and his son turned around to stare at us. The man didn't notice Mommy, and he moved on to whisper to his wife. She looked, but she must have felt the fire in my mommy's eyes, because she looked away really fast. Then the man whispered to his daughter (probably 14), but the mother caught her before she turned around. So she tried to be smooth about it, and look without being obvious. That didn't work, because Mommy was still staring at all of them. She should have waved hello. That would have been funny. But she was too mad to be funny.

Mommy finished giving me my milk right about the same time the family was done checking out. Mommy and I were in front of them going towards the exit, when Mommy said, "I have to say something this time, Boo." So she did!

Mommy turned around and the woman was right behind her. "Ma'am," Mommy said, "You really should tell your husband that when he wants to stare at a disabled baby, he should be a little more discreet about it." The lady looked very embarassed, but she never did apologize. She just said, "Oh, no, he didn't mean anything by it." The man said the same thing. So Mommy looked at him and said, "I watched you stare at my baby, and then whisper to every member of your family while you all turned to look. You never even noticed me looking right at you." Again, he just kept saying "I didn't mean anything." So Mommy just kept going. "What are teaching your children by behaving this way? If you had a question, you should have asked me. You should not have encouraged your family to stare at my baby like she is a side show." Again, same thing: "I didn't mean anything." Never an apology. So Mommy just pointed out that it was extremely rude and we walked away.

(I would just like to point out here that I am four. I am a big girl, I am NOT a baby. But I didn't think Mommy was in the mood to be corrected.)

Mommy was very proud of herself for saying the things she wanted to say. She wanted to point out that she would have answered questions. And she wanted to call him out on teaching his children that it was okay to act like that. I think she got her point across, and hopefully it taught his children a lesson too. Mommy was also very proud of herself for not even letting her voice crack, and walking out head high until we got to the car. Then she sat in the back seat with me in her lap, and she cried and snuggled me. I personally just thought it was funny that Mommy was sitting in my back seat!

We went to the Yankee Candle store after that, even though Mommy just wanted to go home. It was our last stop, and we are glad we did go. Because they went on and on about how beautiful I was, and they let me pull stuff off the shelves even when Mommy told me "No ma'am." I think I'd like to go back to that store. I could have a lot of fun with all those breakable candle jars. Plus, who doesn't want to listen to people talk about how great I am?! It was perfect timing today.

Another Short Story

Once upon a time, a little girl got a brand new wardrobe for her birthday. The little girl's mommy wanted to take a picture of the little girl in her cute new outfit. But the little girl was too mad to smile for the picture because there was a pesky little boogie in her tiny nose.

Her mommy tried to help with a tissue, but it just made the little girl even more angry. So, the smart little girl decided to take matters into her own hands. Literally.

The little boogie was successfully removed and the little girl was instantly all smiles again!

The end. :)
