River Rugrat

Today I went with my Mommy, Daddy, and Papa on a boat ride on the river in Daddy's new boat. Mommy and Daddy only took me out on Daddy's old boat once, because it was too small for Mommy to really feel safe. Especially with me on her lap. That was about a year and a half ago, and I was miserable because of the life jacket they made me wear. And usually when I cry loud enough for long enough, I wind up getting my way. Turns out Mommy doesn't give in when it comes to the life jacket though! So I was fighting her, and kicking, and screaming, and trying my hardest to get out of her arms. Needless to say, we didn't try again. :)

This time, Daddy put the life jacket on me before we left to see if we were going to have a repeat performance. But it didn't bother me at all! In fact, I found it pretty funny that I could fall backwards with it on and it would protect my head from getting bumped. Mommy is considering making me wear it all the time! So out on the river we went, and I was laughing and smiling. I didn't really like the wind in my face, but this time instead of fighting Mommy, I just let her hug me tight. Then I wrapped myself around her like a little octopus.

With the help of Papa, we found a spot to play on the shore. It was the same spot Mommy used to play when she was little. I had a lot of fun playing in the water, much more fun than I do at the beach. It was not too sunny or hot, and the waves were little and not noisy at all. I was splashing away like a little fish!

But then some boats came by. And they weren't regular boats like Daddy's. They were big noisy airboats. And now we know that #1 on my scary noise list is actually airboats, NOT the lawn mower! Fortunately they go by quickly, so I was only upset for a few seconds at a time. When I was playing in the water and I heard an airboat coming down the river, Daddy had to quickly come to my rescue.

I definitely had an exciting weekend full of new things! Mommy is very proud of me for all the bravery I've shown in the last few days. I tried to tell her, I'm a pretty tough cookie.
